This idiom we understand

As victim's blood on killer's hand

Because he hasn't had the time

To wash it off and hide the crime.

For other crimes, it has the sense

Of fresh, conclusive evidence.

"I know you took the biscuit tin -

You've biscuit crumbs all round your chin!"
