ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Από που είσαι;  (Where are you from?) is a fair enough question and one I hear almost every day.

I apologise for the fact that the answer is not simple. I was born in Kenya and migrated to New Zealand with my parents when I was seven years old. Apart from two years back in Kenya, full of very vivid impressions, when I was 14 and 15, I finished my education in New Zealand and became a geography teacher.

Since the mid-1970s, however, I have lived in Europe, changing jobs as I moved countries – from France (tourist guide) to Germany (English teacher) to the Netherlands (sales and marketing) and to Luxembourg (translator for the European Commission).

I retired in 2014 and moved to Crete. I am a Luxembourg citizen but my parents were British and I have inherited a love of the English language, my mother tongue.
