PHOTOGRAPHY AND POEMS

HUMAN NATURE

It rained all night, it poured all day

“In pipe stems” as the Dutch would say

(Our “cats and dogs” I’ve never got

Since neither like the rain a lot)

But I digress: enough to make

The Almyritha Parking Lake –

A water body that will form

In minutes if there is a storm.

It’s not surprising, who would dream

Of building hotels in a stream,

Especially when it cannot reach

The sea for buildings on the beach.

The Gavalachori catchment zone

Is huge, and Crete we know is prone

To massive quantities of rain

So anyone with half a brain

Would leave the river its own bed

And build them somewhere else instead.

Last night, just left there by the flood,

The tons of rocks, the yards of mud,

Were mute, compelling evidence

That humans haven’t got much sense.
